Severe Hair Loss from Chemical Trauma, Relaxers and Weaves: Rosie's Story

12 months treatment · Traction Alopecia

Hair loss specialist — trichology clinic for men and women

Rosie had hit her 50s when she came to us distressed about her severely thinning hair. Years of chemical relaxer use and tight weaves had caused extreme damage, resulting in a dramatic 70% reduction in her hair density. Despite having a healthy scalp, the long-term chemical trauma and mechanical tension had left her hair brittle, weak, and significantly thinner, impacting her overall appearance and self-esteem. Rosie wanted to regain her hair’s natural fullness and restore its health.

Rosie’s hair loss issues: Manual damage and chemical trauma

Rosie had hit her 50s when she came to us distressed about her severely thinning hair. Years of chemical relaxer use and tight weaves had caused extreme damage, resulting in a dramatic 70% reduction in her hair density. Despite having a healthy scalp, the long-term chemical trauma and mechanical tension had left her hair brittle, weak, and significantly thinner, impacting her overall appearance and self-esteem. Rosie wanted to regain her hair’s natural fullness and restore its health.

Rosie’s hair loss treatment plan

For Rosie, we developed an intensive 12-month treatment plan using 20% Vitastim and 20% Biostim, applied twice daily, morning and evening. This high-strength formula was specifically designed to repair the severe damage caused by chemical treatments and manual styling. It aimed to strengthen the weakened hair, stimulate dormant follicles, and promote new growth, targeting both the health of her scalp and the structure of each hair strand.

Rosie’s outcome

After a year of dedicated treatment, Rosie’s hair made a remarkable recovery. Her hair density had improved significantly, and the overall health and strength of her hair were restored. Once thin and fragile, her hair became much fuller, healthier, and less prone to breakage, giving her back her confidence and a revitalised appearance.

"I honestly didn't think my hair could recover after so many years of damage. Gary's plan was intensive but it worked. My hair is stronger now than it was even before all the chemical treatments started."

— Rosie, Traction Alopecia client

What is Traction Alopecia?

Traction Alopecia is hair loss caused by repeated or prolonged tension on hair follicles from tight hairstyles such as braids, weaves, ponytails, or extensions. It most commonly affects women of Afro-Caribbean and South Asian heritage, where culturally popular tight styling practices create sustained pulling pressure on the follicles. When identified and treated early, Traction Alopecia is reversible — but prolonged tension can lead to permanent follicle damage, making early specialist assessment critical.
