Barbara’s hair loss issues: Traction Alopecia and Chemical Trauma

Barbara was in her 30s when she came to us worried about her severely thinning hair. The chemical trauma (caused by years of from relaxers and the strain of tight weaves) had created significant damage. Despite having a healthy scalp, the repeated exposure to harsh chemicals and the mechanical stress from styling left her hair weak, damaged, and reduced density by 50%. She was eager to restore her hair’s health and regain its natural thickness.

Barbara’s hair loss treatment plan

For Barbara, we developed a 12-month intensive treatment plan using 20% Vitastim and 20% Biostim twice daily. This high-strength formula was designed to repair the damage caused by relaxers and weaves, strengthen the hair strands, and stimulate the follicles to restore density and promote healthy regrowth.

Barbara’s outcome

After a year of dedicated treatment, Barbara’s hair made a remarkable recovery. Her hair density increased significantly, and the overall health and strength of her hair improved dramatically. She was thrilled with the results, with her hair now much fuller, healthier, and less prone to breakage.

"Years of chemicals and tight styling had really taken their toll on my hair. Gary assessed everything properly and gave me a real plan to fix it. The improvement over 12 months was incredible — I have my hair back."

— Barbara, Traction Alopecia client

What is Traction Alopecia?

Traction Alopecia is hair loss caused by repeated or prolonged tension on hair follicles from tight hairstyles such as braids, weaves, ponytails, or extensions. It most commonly affects women of Afro-Caribbean and South Asian heritage, where culturally popular tight styling practices create sustained pulling pressure on the follicles. When identified and treated early, Traction Alopecia is reversible — but prolonged tension can lead to permanent follicle damage, making early specialist assessment critical.
